Our Story
The concept for Riverside Philanthropies emerged from something quite simple - two new neighbors and friends working side-by-side on a dock along the Loxahatchee River. From swapping stories and brain storming business projects, to looking for a new way to engage in local community causes, these two friends were searching for meaning. Amongst their stories and ideas was the tale of a former “Loafers and Liars Club”. This group of older gentlemen lived in a bygone era where they always found a way to enjoy life by helping each other out. These friends wanted to start something together that would be similar to that group, but they knew they would need a good corporate name for a new LLC business venture and a list of local charities in town with which they could get involved.
And then there was the Ah-Ha Moment , as some think older generations rarely have - “Loafers and Liars Club"; “Riverside LLC"; “Maybe Riverside Philanthropies LLC?” And so it began…
Granted, this organization is, in fact, a proper Non-Profit in the State of Florida (as we are) with IRS 501c(3) Charitable Non-Profit Status (pending approval). That means that it is Incorporated as an “Inc.” or a “Corp.”, and is not a Limited Liability Company at all. While legal matters, accounting matters and charitable causes will be taken very seriously by this organization, the spirit of that old “Loafers and Liars Club” still lives on.
